Sustainability, corporate governance, and firm performance: Evidence from emerging markets

The purpose of this paper is to explore and investigate the influence sustainability especially environmental pillar corporate board diversity on financial performance in emerging markets. This study examines effect composition firm performance. sample comprises 1382 firms with a total 19199 firm-year observations covering period from 2008 2021. These are listed MSCI markets index representing 24 countries. results show that main (ESG index) other sub-indices (environmental score, emission score CO2 equivalent emission) used as measures climate change have an accounting-based (return assets, ROA) market-based (Tobin’s Q book-to-market value, BTMV). Also, age, nationality education components affect performance; however, female directors did not
